Addition principle of counting for JEE
The fundamental principle of counting
Formula
\(\text{If one task can be done in }m\text{ ways and another disjoint task in }n\text{ ways, then one of them can be done in }m+n\text{ ways.}\)
Variables: \(m,n\) are the numbers of ways of mutually exclusive choices.
Conditions: Choices counted must be mutually exclusive and collectively represent the required selection.
Counting cases split into non-overlapping categories; arrangement/selection by cases.
